Getaway Girl

So the other day I'm giving the girls a bath, while Mary is getting their pajamas ready. I stepped out for a minute to do something. While I was out I could hear some splashing that was not good bath taking etiquette so I went back to make sure the girls weren't making too big of a mess. I walked around the corner and Emme is out of the tub, splashing a wet towel on the floor. I wanted her to stop so I said "hey stop that" and Emme jumped as if her legs were little springs and dove head first into the tub, swam through the water and came up acting as if nothing was wrong. It was so funny to see this little bum dive through the air and into the water. I was a little upset that they were making a mess by splashing water onto the bathroom floor but seeing Emme perform her getaway dive was just too funny and made it too hard to stay upset. Our kids sure do make us laugh and make life very interesting.

Technology...Is it worth it?

Ok, so today I get into work and the main programmer (Tim) on our team at work instant messages me from Rexburg Idaho. He asks if I have some time and I say sure. He tells me that he was trying to update our server here in our office from Rexburg and something went wrong and now the server is dead. So I ask him what he wants me to do. He asks if I can check on it and see what it's doing. Now let me tell you that I have no idea how to work a server. I can do most things on a normal computer but on a server, your guess is as good as mine.

I tell Tim ok and I go check on the server. I have to walk down to the server room and once inside I find that the server does not have a keyboard or monitor. So now I have to go back to my office and find a keyboard and monitor. Once that is taken care of I have to figure what the stuff means that I'm seeing on the screen. I run back to my office to chat with Tim, (once again using technology) to find out what he wants/needs me to do. I get sick of all this running around and I track down a laptop and take it to the server room with me so I can chat with Tim and figure out what I'm doing. Needless to say, there was a lot of internet chatting and me trying to do stuff with the server that meant nothing to me.

So now my question is, is technology worth it? I was able to help Tim get things fixed after a few hours of work and a few tries. I used technology to communicate with Tim to fix technology and somehow this felt a little ironic at times. What if we didn't have technology like this? Would life be quieter and calmer? Would we be less happy without it?

How is it....

This morning Emme found a little jar of vaseline and got into it. When we found her she had it all over her hands, lips, in her ears and hair, and on her face. Mary got her cleaned up and we thought we were good. So, we left the girls playing in their playroom while we were getting showered and dressed for the day. The girls are alone for maybe 10 minutes when Grace comes in tells us that Emme is doing something very bad. I run into the kitchen and Emme has found a tube of lip balm in Mary's purse and she has all over her hands, feet, lips and face. These two episodes were maybe 20 minutes apart. So later in the day Mary is visiting a friend and Emme finds a candy stash of the son of this friend and eats it all, gets chocolate all over her shirt and pants and loves every minute of it. So my question is this, how is it that a 2 year old has the innate ability to find everything and anything that we don't want her to find and then to make a mess with those things? How is it that she only does it when we are brushing our teeth and combing our hair which means she is not being supervised for 5 minutes? Is this ability in all children? Is it inherited from one of us? What is the answer? You tell me.

Operation Sleep Update

So, many of you have read and voted about Operation Sleep. The majority voted that it would work. Well, here are the results. The girls still get up at 5:30 or earlier. They come into the room and one of us helps them find there milk and snacks and go the the bathroom. Once this is done we climb back into bed and we get to lay there until 6. So in a way we are in bed till 6 but it's not restful sleep as we had hoped. So I don't think Operation Sleep was a bust. In a way it's a step forward. We are able to stay in bed until six now, whereas before one of us was getting up with the girls at 5:30. We may need to tweak something here to get the results we want. I still have this feeling that we aren't going to sleep past six until we are 65 and the kids are all moved out. The problem with that is I'll be at the age where men get jumpy legs so I won't sleep then either. Man, we got the shaft when it comes to getting good sleep. I mean both of the girls got up every hour to feed when they were first born. I've heard people say their kids were sleeping through the night at 2 months. Not us, not in our house. Maybe there is some sort of curse on this house or family. Maybe we weren't meant to sleep and therefore if any of you come visit you will not sleep either. I'll make sure of that. If I don't sleep in my own house then nobody will, AHha hahaahaha (evil sinister laugh).

Before and After

Have you ever noticed the lame Before and After shots in make-up or weight loss ads on TV or in magazines. I love how the before shots are always of people who look completely depressed and the after shots look like the people just found out they won a million dollars. So this is my own version of a Before and After shot. You guess what transpired between the two shots. . .did I buddy up to Leeza Gibbons and use the latest, greatest, hottest trend for spring--mineral make-up; did I use "natural health certified Hoodia that suppresses appetite and aids weight loss as certified by a Harvard professor and seen on Oprah!"; or did I TAKE A SHOWER!

Why I Love My Man

Last night I was exhausted! It was about 11:00 and Jon and I had just finished watching an episode of Seinfield in bed. I wanted to get up and get ready for bed, but my body just wouldn't respond. I was completely enveloped in my favorite pillow and down comforter, finally warmed through after spending the day shivering. And so my dear and loving husband actually got my toothbrush for me and brought it to me in bed! Then he brought me two cups--one to spit in and one with water to rinse. Then he even brought me a contact case so I could take out my contacts, all without leaving the comfort of my beautiful bed. After spending my time day after day doing things for my kids, it felt so nice to have someone do something for me! What a mighty fine man!
Oh, and I forgot to mention that this was all after he had secretly arranged for a baby sitter and taken me out to dinner!

Operation Sleep

So for some reason Grace and Emmeline don't like to sleep. They wake up every day between 5 and 5:30. On a good day we might get to sleep until 5:45. We are very tired and have decided that is it time to do something. Mary talked to her sister the other day and got an idea. We tried it this morning with mixed results. The idea is to get the girls to make a snack the night before and put it in the fridge. Then tell them that when they wake up they are to go to the fridge get the snack and then play in the playroom until Mom and Dad wake up. Grace got up at 5:25, went to the bathroom and then got her snacks. Emme came in a 5:40 and needed help going potty. So we are going to test this out for a few days and hopefully Mary and myself will get to sleep until 6. Oh glorious day. So what do you all think? Will this work? What ideas do you have?
